Football Stadium
Peninsula Stadium, Moor Lane, Salford
One our of most interesting projects to date. Salford City Football Club had recently been taken over by the ‘Class of 92’ group of former Manchester United FC footballers with investor Peter Lim, and were rising up the leagues of English football and had outgrown their existing Moor Lane stadium.
Zerum Construction asked us to look at pricing a ground improvement solution for the new stadium as an alternative to driven piling. The main project involved the complete demolition of their existing Moor Lane Ground, building four new stands and increasing the grounds capacity from 2,163 to 5,172 with a strict deadline of March 2017.
After reviewing the granular ground conditions and noting the strict build time bestowed upon us by the client, Town & Country Vibro offered a Value Engineered solution using Vibro Stone Columns, effectively halving the programme of works and proposed cost.
Town & Country Vibro installed a total of 640 columns across 6 days. The columns were designed on a grid system to provide a bearing capacity of 100kN/m2 beneath the flat bottomed raft foundation for all four stands and flood light bases, taking all columns down to natural dense sand at depths of up to 4m using our Top Feed method.
